MERINO SPIN® Yarn, Developed by Finetrack®
Wool possesses natural functions such as warmth, moisture control, and antibacterial/odor control. Finetrack® developed MERINO SPIN® yarn by blending unfinished merino wool with high-performance polyester fibers, then covering it with cross-sectional polyester filament fibers featuring four flat peaks.
Knit fabrics made with MERINO SPIN® yarn offer sweat-wicking, quick-drying durability for outdoor activities, and, being machine-washable, are easy to maintain at home.
Moisture Control
Wool's moisture control is attributed to the "scales" on its surface. These scales can open and close, absorbing moisture and humidity in damp conditions and releasing moisture in dry conditions. This helps maintain a comfortable level of humidity. However, wool garments are often difficult to wash at home because the scales become entangled with each other, causing the fabric to shrink and become stiff. To address this, a shrink-proofing treatment is typically applied, involving the removal, or polymer coating, of the scales. Yet if the scales are reduced, the wool's natural functions and fiber strength will deteriorate.
Finetrack® utilizes unfinished merino wool in MERINO SPIN® yarn to maximize wool's natural attributes, its efficient moisture control in particular, for enhanced comfort.
Sweat-Wicking, Quick-Drying, Anti-Odor, Antimicrobial Performance
Quick-drying fabric is essential to avoid the risk of hypothermia from sweat chill. If this important function is lost after only a few uses or washings, it cannot be relied upon in extreme outdoor conditions.
After numerous tests of chemicals and processing conditions, Finetrack® achieved MERINO SPIN® fabrics that retain their sweat-wicking and quick-drying performance even after 100 washes. Our fabrics also maintain their anti-odor and antimicrobial finish durability after 100 washes.
Our quick-drying test involves dropping 0.6cc of water onto test pieces and measuring their residual weight over time under standard conditions (20°C with 65%RH humidity). When compared to 100% merino wool knit underwear and wool-polyester blended knit underwear, the superior quick-drying performance of the MERINO SPIN® fabrics is clearly demonstrated.
