  • What's unique about Finetrack?

Our strength lies in our expertise in layering systems and textile engineering, with every product designed specifically for backcountry adventures. We prioritize layering to optimize moisture management and temperature control. The key distinction in our 5-layering system is the use of a water-repellent Elemental Layer worn under the base layer. When the necessary materials don’t exist, we develop our own—creating yarns, textiles, and materials from scratch. Our close relationships with material manufacturers and production facilities, all located within close proximity, enable seamless communication and efficient production.

  • What products does Finetrack make? Who are they for?

We provide a diverse range of outdoor apparel and gear tailored for adventurers engaged in activities such as mountaineering, alpine and rock climbing, ski and snowboard touring, trail running, ultralight long-distance hiking, biking, canyoning, and kayaking.

  • Where are Finetrack products manufactured?

All our products, including original textiles and materials, are proudly designed and manufactured in Japan, ensuring high-quality craftsmanship and ensuring seamless communication throughout the manufacturing process and minimizing unnecessary transportation of materials. Learn more.

Finetrack Products & Technology

  • What is the Elemental Layer®?

The Elemental Layer® is Finetrack's next-to-skin foundational layer designed to be worn directly on the skin beneath a sweat-wicking, quick-dry base layer. It helps keep moisture away from your skin, reducing sweat chill and enhancing comfort during outdoor activities. Learn more.

  • Is Elemental Layer a base layer?

No, the Elemental Layer is not a base layer. It is designed to be worn next to the skin, underneath the base layer, allowing them to work together. Simply put, base layers wick moisture away, while Elemental Layers repel it. When you sweat, the Elemental Layer channels moisture up to the base layer for wicking and drying. Meanwhile, it acts as a barrier to prevent direct contact between your skin and a damp base layer, keeping you dry and helping to maintain body temperature.

  • How should I wear the Elemental Layer® for optimal performance?

The Elemental Layer® is meant to be worn directly against your skin, with a high-performance, sweat-wicking base layer on top. This setup effectively regulates moisture, keeping you dry and comfortable in demanding conditions. Learn more.

  • What is Finetrack's 5-Layer System?

Our 5-layer system is designed to optimize moisture management, insulation, and protection. The system consists of:
    1. L1 - Elemental Layer: Protects your skin from moisture to stay dry.
    2. L2 - Base Layer: Wicks and dries moisture away from the body.
    3. L3 - Mid Layer: Active breathable insulation.
    4. L4 - Mid Shell: Enhances wind resistance and breathability.
    5. L5 - Outer Shell: Provides waterproof protection against harsh weather, while maintaining stretchability.
Learn more about our 5-layer system.

  • How is the Elemental Layer different from other mesh layer products?

Finetrack's Elemental Layer utilizes proprietary textile technology to achieve water repellency. Unlike most mesh layers, which are categorized as base layers and focus on moisture wicking and breathability, the Elemental Layer serves a different function. While they may appear similar, they belong to distinct layering categories, each designed with a specific purpose in mind.

  • How does Finetrack apparel fit? Can you explain the sizing?

Our apparel follows Japanese sizing, which typically runs one size smaller than US sizing (e.g., a JP Medium is equivalent to a US Small). It’s also designed with an athletic, close-to-body fit to enhance movement, performance, and layering efficiency. If you prefer a more relaxed fit or have a muscular or athletic build, we recommend sizing up. Please refer to the sizing chart for detailed measurements.

Product Care & Maintenance

  • How do I care for my Finetrack gear?

While our products are engineered for durability, it's advisable to avoid repeated rubbing, contact with sharp objects, or accidental hooking on branches or hook-and-loop fasteners to prevent damage.
